Construction platforms
Estimateria vs Procore for door, hardware and finish takeoffs
Procore is not really a takeoff product; it is the system a construction business runs on, with takeoff, estimating, drawings and bid management as modules inside it. If your company already lives there, the argument for taking off somewhere else has to be good. It is this: Division 8 and finish work is schedule work, and a platform that treats takeoff as measurement on a plan leaves the schedule table to be typed. Estimateria reads it, prices the hardware behind it, measures the plan in 2D, builds a running bid and recap, and exports into whatever comes next. Procore can be connected as an outside system, but nothing is imported from it yet.
What Procore is
A construction management platform. Its Takeoff module does area, linear and volume on 2D and 3D, with AI symbol recognition to count fixtures, doors and outlets, overlay comparison of revisions with colour-coded additions and deletions, and customisable cost catalogs and assemblies that push into the estimate and the budget, with several estimators on one set. Around it sit Estimating, Bid Management for bid packages, invitations and levelling, and Drawings, which runs OCR on upload to find callouts and hyperlink sheets. Pricing is not disclosed.
What Estimateria is
One narrow job done properly. The set is classified locally, the door, hardware and finish schedules come off the pages into an editable grid keyed by door mark, hardware sets break into items priced from supplier listings, and every row keeps its page and region. Measurements feed conditions, assemblies, quotes and a recap. It is not a system of record and does not try to be; the output is a file that goes into yours.
How the same job goes
One door schedule on a set of architectural PDFs, from the drawings to a priced, exportable list.
In Procore
- 1The drawings are already in the platform, hyperlinked by the OCR that ran on upload.
- 2Calibrate and measure area, linear and volume conditions in the Takeoff module.
- 3Run symbol recognition to count fixtures, doors and outlets.
- 4Apply cost catalogs and assemblies so quantities push into the estimate and the budget.
- 5Overlay the revision when the addendum lands, and read the colour-coded changes.
- 6For the door schedule itself, read the table on the sheet and enter the openings.
In Estimateria
- 1Upload the set — or just the architectural sheets you are bidding.
- 2Pages are classified locally, so the schedules and floor plans are already located.
- 3Select the schedule on the page; the rows land in the grid, one per door mark.
- 4Hardware sets break into items, matched and priced from supplier listings.
- 5Review the flagged rows with the drawing a click away on the source chip.
- 6Measure the plan, put measurements under conditions and assemblies, and read the running bid and recap.
- 7Export the estimating package to Excel, or the marked-up sheets to PDF, and take it into the platform.

Stay with Procore when
- Your company runs on Procore and the estimate has to live where the budget does.
- You need bid management: packages, invitations, levelling, conversion to subcontracts.
- Takeoff, estimate and budget being one continuous object is the point.
- You need 3D or BIM takeoff.
- You want revision overlay with colour-coded changes today.
Choose Estimateria when
- The bid turns on the door, hardware and finish schedules, which are tables, not conditions.
- You want the hardware behind each opening broken out and priced from suppliers.
- You are a subcontractor bidding to several GCs and are not going to buy a platform per customer.
- You want the takeoff to start in minutes rather than after a platform rollout.
- You want to know which page, region and producer stands behind each row.
Side by side
| Feature | Estimateria | Procore |
|---|---|---|
| Runs the whole project | No A takeoff workspace, not a system of record. No budgets, RFIs or field tools; submittal status is tracked per item, not as a project log. |
Yes A construction management platform with takeoff as one module. |
| Schedule table read into rows by door mark | Yes Door, hardware and finish modules, with hardware and finish hanging off the mark. |
No Takeoff is measurement on a plan; the schedule table is entered by hand. |
| Hardware set breakdown and pricing | Yes Sets split into items, priced from supplier listings and a price library, and selected in the grid. |
Partly Customisable cost catalogs and assemblies that you populate and maintain. |
| Cost catalogs, assemblies and estimate | Partly Assemblies with waste and labor rates, cost items, a price library, supplier quotes and a recap. It ends in a bid recap, not a budget. |
Yes Cost catalogs and assemblies push into the estimate and the budget. |
| Symbol counting on the plan | Partly Doors, rooms and count-by-exemplar as reviewable suggestions. Accuracy measured on synthetic drawings only. |
Yes AI symbol recognition counts fixtures, doors and outlets. |
| Revision overlay | Partly Sheets of a reissued set are paired by sheet number, with your takeoff cost inside each changed area. It reads text, not lines, and there is no visual overlay. |
Yes Overlay comparison with colour-coded additions and deletions. |
| Volume, 3D and BIM | Partly 2D only: area, length, perimeter, count and volume (an area times a depth you enter). |
Yes Area, linear and volume on 2D and 3D. |
| Sheet hyperlinking from callouts | Partly Callout tags such as 3/A8.1 are read from each page's text and searchable by detail reference in the command palette, alongside full-text search across the set. Sheets are not hyperlinked across the set on upload. |
Yes OCR on upload finds detail, section and elevation callouts and hyperlinks sheets; the vendor notes it is less reliable on raster and can take up to 45 minutes. |
| Bid management | Partly Supplier quotes are recorded and levelled, and awarded into the bid. No bid packages, invitations or conversion to subcontracts. |
Yes Bid packages, invitations, levelling and conversion of winning bids to subcontracts. |
| Markups visible to others by default | Yes Markups and comments are the project's, with presence and an activity feed. |
Partly Markups start on a personal layer and must be published before others see them. |
| Where a quantity came from | Yes Every row and accepted detection carries its page, region, producer and confidence. |
Partly Markups are copied to the next revision; quantities are not documented as re-linked. |
| A price you can see before talking to sales | No Free to sign up; no published price yet. |
No Pricing is not disclosed; a review article says it is quoted by annual revenue. |

What Estimateria does not do
If one of these decides the job for you, Procore is the better answer and we would rather you knew now.
- Not a system of record: no budgets, RFIs, daily logs or field tools.
- No bid packages or invitations, and no estimate that flows into a budget.
- No 3D or BIM takeoff.
- No visual revision overlay, and no hyperlinking of sheets across the set on upload.
- The Procore connection signs in and is health-checked, but pulls nothing from Procore yet.
- Outside door, hardware, finish and millwork, other trades are not modelled.
What it costs
- Procore
- Not disclosed. A review article says pricing is custom-quoted by annual revenue and that users call it expensive and hard to learn; that is the author's synthesis of reviews rather than a Procore statement.
- Estimateria
- Sign-up is open and free while the product is being built, so there is no published price yet. The free calculators need no account at all.
Prices are what the vendor published when this page was reviewed, and they move. Check with Procore before you budget.
Common questions
We already pay for Procore. Why add anything?
Only one reason is good enough: the schedule. If your Division 8 and finish quantities are typed out of a table on a sheet into the estimate, that is the part this replaces. Everything else Procore does, it does and we do not.
Does it integrate with Procore?
Only at the first step. An owner or admin can connect the organization's Procore account under Settings, and the connection is watched for going stale. Nothing is imported from Procore yet, so the output is still an Excel or PDF file, or the estimating package, which you take into the platform yourself.
Is this for GCs or subs?
Mostly subs and specialty estimators bidding doors, hardware and finishes. A GC running Procore has less to gain, unless a Division 8 estimator on the team is doing schedule work by hand.
What about the drawings module's callout hyperlinks?
That is the part where Procore is ahead. Here, callout tags are read from the page text and can be searched by detail reference, and search across the whole set plus a command palette that jumps to a sheet cover some of the same ground, but the sheets are not hyperlinked across the set on upload.
