A panel beside the grid, not a chatbot in a corner
It sits beside the grid, not in a corner tab, because the questions it is good for are the grid's own questions: how many of these doors, what does this hardware set cost, what changed on this sheet. Every answer that reads a document can point back at the page it came from.

How it works
-
01
Ask it something about the set
How many hollow metal doors, what hardware is on 214, what does the fire-rating column say -- it searches the project's indexed pages to answer, or scans the PDF live if nothing is indexed yet.
-
02
It can edit the sheet
Rename a column, fix values across rows, restructure a table -- changes land in the same grid you would edit by hand, and a brief highlight shows what it touched.
-
03
It can look up a price
The same six vendor sites and AI fallback the hardware pricing tool uses, run from the chat, returning a short list of candidates rather than saving one automatically.
-
04
Every document answer cites its source
A "Sources" chip opens the cited page in a dialog with the exact snippet highlighted -- the same page-and-snippet trail every row on the schedule carries.
What it does
- Reads across the whole set
- document_search covers every indexed page of the project, not just the sheet you have open.
- Progress while it works
- What it is doing shows as it happens -- which tool ran, one line per step -- rather than a spinner with nothing behind it.
- A download button, never a silent file
- When it triggers an export, a button appears for you to click. It never attaches a file on its own.
Common questions
Can it change my takeoff by mistake?
It can only use the tools it is given, scoped to the project you are in, and every document it reads is treated as data rather than instructions. Review a grid change the way you would review your own edit.
How do citations work?
When it answers from a document, a Sources chip appears. Click it and the exact page opens with the passage it relied on highlighted.
Does it save prices it finds?
No. A price lookup from the chat returns candidates for you to look at; saving one to a hardware item is a separate, explicit step.
More of the workspace
- Schedules Door schedule Every door on the set, one row per mark, with hardware and finish hanging off the same row.
- Schedules Hardware sets A hardware set breaks into items, each one matched to a catalog part, priced, and chosen.
- Schedules Room finishes Finish codes read from the specification, one record per code, tied to the doors that carry them.
